Shifting Gears Pet Products is a brand that offers superior quality dog collars, leashes and toys made from reclaimed climbing ropes and tennis balls. What’s the shift all about? Our sustainable line of pet accessories and toys are made right here in the USA, Boulder, Colorado to be exact. Conscious consumers and dog lovers have a lot of options when it comes to buying leashes, collars and tug toys for their loved ones, but none that care about performance, style and the environment as much as Shifting Gears.
You can buy the same old boring solid colors or prints designed by a big box store. You can buy a competitors line that is supposed to look like climbing rope but is really a weak substitute of regular virgin poly fiber dyed to look cool and made overseas. Or you can support progress and smart pet shopping by purchasing a Shifting Gears Pet Product the next time to need something we make. It will be the last leash and collar your dog will ever love.
The ropes we use are actual reclaimed new and used climbing ropes which we collect through local and national partners; from our neighborhood climbing gyms like Movement Climbing + Fitness in Boulder and the City of Lakewood Recreation Centers to many North American rope manufacturers like Sterling Ropes, Pigeon Mountain Industries (PMI), and Blue Water Ropes.
The tennis balls we collect for the dog toys are diverted in partnership with local groups like Greenwood Athletic Club and Metro State College of Denver Tennis Teams; and in 2012 we are piloting a program with the U.S. Tennis Association of Colorado, the Colorado Youth Tennis Foundation and Racquets for All, a donation/giving campaign equipping those in need.
This isn’t just about making great looking pet products from ropes with a 6,000LB breaking strength and decommissioned tennis balls. This is about smart waste reuse, sustainable manufacturing, U.S. jobs, and teaching kids about healthy living, enjoying sport and caring for our environment in our everyday lives when we make everyday choices.
