Annual Summit by The Colorado Association for Recycling

Now in it’s 21st year!

June 6, 2010 – June 8, 2010

We would like to thank CAFR staff, board and sponsors for putting on an excellent opportunity for the recycling industry to learn, connect and evolve. BolderPath was proud to launch the Municipal DiversionWorks Partnership at this year’s summit. We met with municipalities, businesses and individuals and offered cutting edge waste-to-product solutions. Together, we can upcycle hard-to-recycle, discarded resources into private labeled products for promotional, comercial and resale uses. People were amazed at the innovation BolderPath offered in waste diversion, product design and real time diversion metrics and LCA footprint reports that are extremely comprehensive and transparent.

We look forward to increasing our scope of materials we work with while stimulating all sectors to divert select wasted textiles from entering the landfill. Equally, we are excited to becoming a staple for the industry to repurpose hard-to-recycle textiles and turn them into value-added second-use products that replace the use of virgin and conventional raw materials. By connecting the dots within our communities, we will reduce waste, benefit local economies, create new jobs and ultimately protect the planet.

More about CAFR Annual Summit

The Colorado Association for Recycling’s annual recycling Summit, in its 21st year, is a dynamic conference and exhibition that brings together the state’s recycling professionals including recycling and waste processors, manufacturers, government agencies, non-profit organizations, academic institutions, trade associations, consultants, and individuals dedicated to the principles of recycling. The Summit schedule is complete with workshops, panel discussions, a variety of presenters, two-day exhibit hall, site tours, recycling awards, silent auction, and fun evening networking events.

Recycling’s Road to the Future

It’s an exciting time for recycling in Colorado. In recent years we’ve seen legislation that for the first time provides significant funding for innovative waste diversion programs across the state. The number of Colorado communities offering curbside recycling, composting and Pay-As-You-Throw programs continues to grow, and key issues like electronics recycling, product stewardship and zero waste are commanding attention.

With all this positive momentum, it is time for us to look ahead and begin mapping the course for the future of recycling in Colorado. Now municipalies, waste management companies, businesses and events can reclaim hard-to-recycle items like vinyl and nylon signs, inner tubes, wetsuits, climbing rope, swim caps and other discarded textiles and close the loop in our wasteful and fuel consumptive global markets.

For more information on how you can join BolderPath’s DiversionWorks Partnership, contact us at info@bolderpath.com or 303-318-4252.

The Superior Morgul Classic was three days of bike racing culminating with the historic Morgul-Bismarck road race. The Morgul-Bismarck is a well known 13 mile loop that was originally featured as part of the Red Zinger and then the Coors Classic in the seventies and eighties. In addition to all the great racing, the Superior Morgul Classic also offered three days of wellness activities, a sustainability expo and on going live music.

In support of the race’s zero waste goals, BolderPath worked with the event coordinators, Endurance Sports Marketing Group, All the Details, Inc., WKS Consulting, and GreenWorks 2020 to provide reclamation bins for riders to drop off their wasted bike inner tubes as well as unwanted wetsuits and swim caps. BolderPath then sustainably designs and manufactures them into innovative second-life sports, business and lifestyle accessories. Thus, offering athletes an opportunity to unclutter their closets , help reduce hard-to-recycle items from entering the landfill and purchase one-of- a kind products.

Under the DiversionWorks program, BolderPath partners with races and events like the Superior Morgul Classic to also repupose dated and sponsor decorated vinyl and nylon banners and frequently discarded mesh staging materials. Perfect for post race gifts and sponsor branded promotional products, races can now sustainably sprint past the rest while adding value and profits to their bottom line. For more information about starting a turnkey waste-to-gear program contact BolderPath and turn your event waste into a wealth of new opportunties.

Boulder County’s New Yoga Mat Reclamation Program

The non-profit Eco-Cycle, is Boulder County’s award-winning residential and commercial recycling and zero waste service provider. Every year they add a new material collection at their soon-to-be-expanded CHaRM facility near Old Pearl St. and 49th St. The Center for Hard to Recycle Materials is a yard filled with items that don’t belong in a blue recycle bin. Books, styrofoam, unusable clothing, yard signs, bike parts, electronics, and so much more.

It’s no surprise that Boulder County has tens-of-thousands of health conscious citizens, and thousands of those that are yoga practitioners on a regular basis. As popularity for yoga increases and our local yogi’s are extending their lives, it seems that the life expectancy of the average yoga mat is getting shorter and shorter and the rubber and plastic foams that make them are starting to pile up.

Eco-Cycle is increasingly interested in developing more local and regional relationships to up-cycle our community’s waste. Most of the tonnage collected is still shipped too far from Boulder to make it a long-term sustainable solution. BolderPath will be collecting the yoga mats from all practitioners and studios that drop them off at Eco-Cycle. Your fee at Eco-Cycle is required to operate their facility and provide this centralized service. BolderPath will be locally remanufacturing this raw material into their second life products. Of course both companies support giving mats to folks who need them first, and reusing them whenever possible in your own way. But when your mat comes to the end of its life, we’ll be here to take them.

If you are a studio or health conscious merchandiser, contact BolderPath for more information about selling private labeled products made locally your own lifestyle waste.
